Registering a Domain / Changing Nameservers
Changing Nameservers
Let's say you registered a domain name at another Registrar and you signed up for web hosting with ASO.
This is okay. Domain registration is separate from web hosting.
To make your domain work with ASO's web hosting service, you need to login to your Registrar (where you registered the domain name originally) and look for an option in your control panel to "Change DNS" or "Change Nameservers".
Change these to
ns1.asmallorange.com and
ns2.asmallorange.com.
It will take up to 24 hours for the information to fully update around the Internet and point your domain to your new web space.
To understand how this works, please visit the
DNS article∞ on How Stuff Works.
Domain Registration
You can register a domain name with A Small Orange. This is a convenience provided to new and existing customers. However, there are a number of different companies that can register a domain name (called a Registrar). When you register a domain name, it is assigned to you for a year or longer. You can transfer the domain name registration to another Registrar if you choose.
A Small Orange is not an official Registrar. While we provide new domain registrations as a convenience for our customers, we cannot accept domain transfers.
Transferring your web hosting does not require you to transfer your domain registration.
