Setting up your new VPS

You've got your welcome email, it has some login information for WHM and VZ Power Panel. Now you just need to set things up.

Web Host Manager (WHM) is designed to manage the server. You access that with your root password.
Cpanel is the control panel software your web hosting accounts will access. You'll generally create a Cpanel account for each customer/site/project/etc.

First, there are some preliminary steps to get things up and running.
For all examples, we use the domain name example.com and the IP addresses 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5

Step 1: Setting up the primary domain

You have an IP address and hostname (vps.example.com).
First login to http://1.2.3.4/whm with your root password to access the WHM Interface.

You'll want to create the primary account and domain name for your server first. This is probably the domain name you signed up with (example.com).

Create a new account by clicking on Account Functions -> Create a New Account
Fill in the appropriate details, such as Username, Domain name, etc and click Create at the bottom.

You've now created a Cpanel user account for your domain name.

Step 2: Setting up the Nameservers

Next, you'll need to set up the Nameservers for your domain name. These nameservers (ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com) will the be nameservers you'll primarily use for setting up new web hosting accounts.

Setting up the nameservers will require setting up the A and NS records in the DNS zone and creating the custom Nameservers at your Registrar. Use these two guides to do this for your primary domain:

Step 3: Creating packages and adding more hosting accounts
Now you're ready to set up hosting packages and accounts for other sites/projects you want to host.
