How to Use SSL on a Shared Server
SSL requires a dedicated IP address, a Private Key, and a Certificate issued from a trusted authority.
Step 1
1. Login to Cpanel
2. Go to SSL Manager -> Private Keys
3. Scroll down to Generate New Key and use the Drop Down menu to select a hostname for SSL.
4. Click Generate.
Step 2
1. Go to SSL Manager -> Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)
2. Under Generate a New Certificate Signing Request, fill in the information.
3. Click Generate.
Step 3
1. Paste the information from the CSR into your order form where you are purchasing the Certificate.
(A Small Orange does not provide certificates. You'll need to purchase from a third-party issuer).
2. When you receive the Certificate, forward that to help@asmallorange.com, requesting support to properly install the certificate and assign a Dedicated IP address to your account.
Step 4
Test out your certificate by going to
https://example.com∞ or
https://www.example.com∞, depending on what you entered for Hostname back in Step 1. Note the "lock" icon in the lower left or lower right corner of your browser. You can usually click on the lock icon to view the ecryption information for that page.
