Help! You changed my site to a dedicated IP and now it's down!

If you have submitted a request to have the IP address changed on your site for installation of an SSL Certificate, you may notice that your site displays a Cpanel "Welcome" page.

This is normal, and will resolve itself within a few hours.

What happens is that the website has been changed to a new IP address in the DNS system (the system that translates your domain name to an IP address). Your ISP has cached the old IP address so it doesn't have to lookup the address each time you want to access your website.

However, the server is no longer displaying your website on that IP address, so it responds with a Cpanel welcome page instead. Don't worry, usually within four hours, the old DNS entry expires and your ISP will grab the new IP address. You'll then be able to view your site correctly.

Keep in mind, this only applies to cached information. Other visitors to your site may not have the old IP address cached and will see the new site immediately.
