Can I hide my WHOIS information

How do I get that WHOIS Privacy stuff that other Registrars and web hosts offer
Can I change my contact information to something fake

ICANN rules and regulations for the domains registered through ASO require accurate and updated contact information for all registered domains. This has been a long-standing policy from the InterNIC and Network Solutions before the registrations were opened up to competing Registrars.

http://www.icann.org/registrars/wdrp.htm
At least annually, a registrar must present to the registrant the current Whois information,
and remind the registrant that provision of false Whois information can be grounds for cancellation of their domain name registration.
Registrants must review their Whois data, and make any corrections.

Since then, there has been concern about personal information appearing in the public record. Whether these concerns are legitimate or not, some Registration services have seen an opportunity for selling value-added privacy services to their customers, where the Registrar brokers any contact/communication through a different WHOIS public contact.

A Small Orange does not offer this service with its domain registrations. For those customers having a legitimate reason for WHOIS privacy ASO does provide a non-fee based option.

Note: this option does not protect your identity from due process of law. You cannot use this to hide from trademark violation lawsuits, illegal/criminal activity, intentional copyright violations, etc. A Small Orange must comply with properly served subpoenas, court orders, etc and release information accordingly.

First, login to the customer/billing area and follow these steps.

1. Select My Sites -> Domains
2. Select the Domain from the list on the left by clicking on the link.
3. Select Modify Contact Info from the list on the left.
4. Scroll down the list and select "Use Billing Contact".

Note: this will prevent us from sending you your EPP Key if you elect to transfer the Domain Registration later. You will need to change the information back if you need to transfer this domain so we can send you the EPP Key from our Registrar.

Note: this will prevent legitimate contact via WHOIS, as ASO does not provide a broker service.
